"Flat Owner"

"Flat Owner"

The app allows flat owners to securely register visitors by entering minimal information—just the visitor's name and phone number. Upon registration, the app generates a temporary link valid for one day, which expires after the visitor's first security checkpoint. This design prioritizes security by restricting visitor input to GET requests only, preventing potential system exploits. The streamlined process ensures a hassle-free experience for flat owners, making visitor management quick and efficient without compromising security.

PROBLEM STATEMENT

Ensuring secure and efficient visitor access is challenging in residential properties. Existing methods are either cumbersome for property owners or risk security breaches. There's a need for a streamlined solution that simplifies pre-visitor registration while maintaining strict security controls.

Site Mapping: Using insights from card sorting and research, I built a detailed site map outlining the app’s structure. This map served as the foundation for a user-friendly navigation system. Sketching and Wireframing: I sketched initial ideas for the app’s interface, focusing on simplicity and ease of use. These sketches were then translated into wireframes, detailing the layout of each screen. Prototyping: With the wireframes ready, I created a medium-fidelity prototype using a design tool. The prototype illustrated key user tasks, such as registering a visitor and generating a secure link. Usability Testing: I conducted usability tests with potential users, gathering feedback on the prototype’s effectiveness. Users were given scenarios, such as registering a pre-visitor, to evaluate the app’s functionality. Iteration: Feedback from usability testing led to improvements in the prototype. If time allowed, further iterations would refine the user experience, ensuring the app is both intuitive and secure.

FINDINGS

The next day, I performed a heuristic analysis on the user flows of MyGate and NoBrokerhood sites, comparing under a set of criteria how the user moves through the site from product discovery to checkout.

Covert’s nine criteria — findable, accessible, clear, communicative, useful, credible, controllable, valuable, learnable and delightful — was used to dissect each competitor’s user flow. Questions such as “Can users easily locate essential features like visitor approval, QR code generation, and security notifications?,” “Does it work well across all devices and screen sizes?,” “Can a user easily describe the value?”.

COMPARING THE REVIEWS

In my analysis of user reviews and feedback, NoBrokerHood significantly outperforms MyGate in key areas such as performance, user interface, and user flows. NoBrokerHood users consistently praise the app for its smooth performance and intuitive design, which makes managing visitor security straightforward and hassle-free. The user interface is clean and well-organized, allowing residents to navigate features with ease. On the other hand, MyGate has garnered criticism for its heavy reliance on advertisements and its pricing model, which detracts from the overall user experience. The frequent ads disrupt user interaction and diminish the app’s effectiveness, leading to dissatisfaction among users who feel that the focus on monetization undermines the app’s primary function of ensuring security. This contrast highlights the importance of prioritizing user experience in the FlatOwner app design, focusing on delivering a seamless, ad-free, and user-friendly interface that meets the security needs of flat owners without compromising on performance.

After completing thorough research and analysis, I began to draft the user flow for the FlatOwner app design. The process involved mapping out each step that a user would take, from logging into the app to managing visitor entries and receiving real-time security notifications. The goal was to create an intuitive, secure, and seamless experience that aligns with the needs of flat owners in managing visitor access. By carefully considering each interaction, I ensured that the user flow would not only be user-friendly but also robust in enhancing security, making it a vital aspect of the app's overall design.

RESULTS

So In my User Flow, FlatOwner app illustrates a seamless and secure process for managing visitor entries. For example, when Mr. Arjun Kapoor, a resident of the Green Meadows apartment complex, is expecting a guest, he can easily log into the FlatOwner app. From the home page, he clicks on the "Plus" icon to register his guest, Mr. Rohan Mehta. Arjun fills in Rohan's details, including his name, phone number, and purpose of visit, and then generates a QR code. This QR code is shared with Rohan via WhatsApp. Upon arrival at the apartment complex, Rohan presents the QR code to the security personnel, who scan it using a designated device, verifying his entry details. Arjun receives a real-time notification of Rohan’s arrival and can approve or deny the entry directly from the app. This streamlined user flow ensures that the visitor management process is not only efficient but also maintains the necessary security measures.
